Your help is needed.  What can you help with?
What’s in it for me and my child and can I do it?
Become an active part of the Laurel Elementary School PTA and discover how easy it is to support your child’s education.  We only need one or two hours of your time.

Patrons for Peace

With the help of Patrons for Peace we are implementing 3 clubs at Laurel Elementary for our students.  Patrons for Peace is a community based non-profit corporation that promotes peace through literacy.  Patrons for Peace Project was founded in 2002 in Laurel, MD, by Ruth Walls, a community activist, with the goal to help foster an elementary school environment where children display acts of tolerance, acceptance and understanding toward each other. In reaching this goal, Patrons for Peace Project would help children learn the life-long skills of being respectful and kind to others in a diverse atmosphere.
The three clubs Patrons for Peace will be sponsoring at Laurel Elementary are:

  1. A Green Club
  2. A Book Club
  3. A Kindness Club

We do need some parents to please help with coming up with any ideas they may have regarding what we can do with the students in these clubs.    A general idea for each club has been suggested but we need assistance in fleshing out the clubs’ activities and implementing them.  If you can help in any way, please contact us at laurelespta@gmail.com or leave the PTA a message at 301-497-3660 and we will get back to you.

Parent Teacher Conference Day

Wednesday, November 11, 2009 will be this year's Parent/Teacher Conference Day. We are in need of some volunteers to make-up the luncheon that we have planned for the teachers to take place that day. If you are interested and can help in any way, please contact us at laurelespta@gmail.com or leave the PTA a message at 301-497-3660 and we will get back to you.

Men Can Make a Difference at LES

If you are a father, grandfather, brother, uncle or a man who is involved in your child’s school and wants to make a difference at LES, then I would like to introduce you to Anthony Stills.  Mr. Stills is heading up a Men’s group within the LES PTA.  Mr. Stills and some other men will be working on a couple of projects soon, so we wanted let you know to stay tuned.  If you are interested and would like more information please contact us at laurelespta@gmail.com or leave the PTA a message at 301-497-3660 and we will get back to you.

If you can help with any aspect of these opportunities, even if it is only helping us to translate at our events we would greatly appreciate it.  We all want the same for our children, that they have a great school experience and really want to learn.  Studies show that parent involvement is crucial to make children’s school experience the best it can be.  Contact us at laurelespta@gmail.com or leave the PTA a message at 301-497-3660 and we will get back to you.
